Dunsky Expands Alberta Presence with Arrival of Steven Groves

Expertise in demand-side management and regulatory strategy 

Dunsky is pleased to welcome Steven Groves as a Senior Consultant to our team of clean energy and climate experts. With over a decade of experience in energy efficiency, Steven strengthens Dunsky’s leading expertise in demand-side management, as well as climate policy and regulatory strategy. 

Steven joins Associate Consultant Ali Ponte as Dunsky’s team based in Calgary, Alberta. Our firm has a long history of supporting clean energy initiatives in the province, and we look forward to deepening our presence in this dynamic and evolving market. 

Steven understands the perspectives of our clients first-hand, having held positions with utilities and provincial governments over the course of his career. As an Engineer with FortisBC and ATCO Gas , Steven led multiple  DSM program and planning functions and provided advice on regulatory issues related to key energy transition topics including energy efficiency, renewable natural gas and rate design. 

He also brings significant experience in government as a former Senior Policy Advisory in the Built Environment Branch of British Columbia’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. As our utility and government clients tackle the complex challenges related to building decarbonization and peak demand management, Steven will be a valuable resource who understands their realities and who has been developing impactful policies and programs for over a decade. 

Steven’s arrival coincides with several new projects that Dunsky is kicking off with the City of Calgary to support building decarbonization, measure and report impact, and explore opportunities to expand the public EV charging network. These projects are the latest work that Dunsky is conducting in Alberta, which includes numerous recent projects to support utilities, governments and other stakeholders in areas including system planning, DSM and DER enablement, building code development and energy efficiency financing.
