Clean energy – and its enabler, storage – is key to achieving a sustainable energy future. We help clients to assess opportunities for clean energy and develop strategies for efficient and cost-effective deployment, catering to systems of all sizes—from large markets serving millions to smaller municipal utilities, remote communities, and off-grid systems.

Our services include:

  • Potential assessments: We assess the technical, economic and market potential for deploying renewable energy, energy storage and other clean energy technologies.
  • Feasibility studies: We analyze the technical and economic merit of clean energy projects in support of project business case assessment, due diligence and regulatory processes.
  • Resource planning: We identify least-cost solutions to meeting emerging system needs in support of Integrated Resource Planning (IRPs), decarbonization pathways, and price forecasting.
  • Costing studies: We conduct detailed costing and comparative analysis of renewable energy and energy storage deployments to help clients develop realistic and robust business cases for investments.
  • Policy and regulatory support: We design, evaluate, and advise on policies and regulations that can address barriers to clean energy solutions.
  • Procurement: We advise on clean energy procurement, helping our clients set appropriate expectations and define strategies to achieve their objectives.

DERs are a critical grid resource that can reduce peak impacts associated with load growth, avoid/defer infrastructure needs and support grid integration of variable generation. Dunsky is a leader in assessing the role of DERs and advising clients on how to integrate DERs into their planning.

Our services include:

  • Potential assessments: We assess the technical, economic and achievable potential for different DERs; with a focus on expected adoption under various market, policy and technology scenarios, and their corresponding impact on the grid.
  • Benefit-cost analysis: We develop and conduct comprehensive benefit-cost frameworks and analyses that capture the full stack of grid, customer and societal benefits (and costs) associated with DERs.
  • Non-wire alternatives (NWA): We assess the opportunities for DERs to serve as NWAs that can avoid/defer infrastructure needs.
  • Market enablement strategies: We advise and design comprehensive policy, regulatory and program strategies that can address barriers and unlock the full potential for DERs.

As the energy transition unfolds, electricity grids and the markets that govern them will have to adapt to growing and shifting needs. We help clients prepare for the energy systems of tomorrow through a mix of strategic and analytical support.

  • Load forecasts: We develop long-term demand forecasting, including the load impacts of emerging technologies, and provide advice on modernizing planning practices.
  • Grid modernization: We help utilities develop comprehensive grid modernization strategies as well as business cases for distinct investments in smart grid technologies.
  • Rate design: We guide clients in modernizing rate structures to align with utility system changes, evolving customer demands, and technological advancements.
  • Policy and regulatory support: We assist clients in exploring options and developing detailed policy and regulatory frameworks through comprehensive analysis and stakeholder engagement.

Clean fuels such as hydrogen, RNG and biomass are important contributors to supporting decarbonization. We help clients understand the sectors, end uses and, economic segments best suited for clean fuels, as well as how to best deploy them.

  • Technical assessments: We assess the technical and economic feasability of different clean fuel production and end-use applications.
  • Market assessment: We conduct studies to assess the market potential for clean fuels, considering the market drivers, supply chain requirements and policy / regulatory frameworks that influence their viability.
