Electric fleets can’t wait: reforms to help grid match pace of change
Canada’s electricity sector requires reform if it is to meet growing demand from transportation electrification, particularly from medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDV) that place a greater strain on the grid.
In a new op-ed for Electric Autonomy, Dunsky Senior Consultant Maddy Ewing shares insights from our new report for Clean Energy Canada. The report identifies the costs and bottlenecks in infrastructure deployment that may slow the pace of MHDV fleet electrification, as well as near-term actions that utilities and fleets can implement to drive progress.
More importantly though, it outlines the long-term policy and regulatory changes needed to support this transition, including:
- Proactive investments in the grid
- Ratebasing infrastructure upgrades that support MHDV electrification
- Smarter electricity pricing
