EV Infrastructure Deployment in North Vancouver
In recent years, the City of North Vancouver has begun taking significant steps to ease adoption of electric vehicles. This past summer, they hired the Dunsky team to advise on options to accelerate those efforts.
Dunsky was retained to assess the City’s options for addressing gaps in their charging infrastructure, including retrofits of existing residential buildings, deployment of public fast charging hubs, and public level 2 charging infrastructure. We assessed the costs of each and modelled their likely impact on EV adoption. And we found that while limited deployment of public level 2 chargers could be helpful in the near term, a strategy that promotes flexibility and convenience by prioritizing retrofits and public fast charging hubs is preferable for promoting large-scale EV adoption in the community. Dunsky’s EV Adoption Model, or “EVA”, was instrumental to this effort, accounting for a range of factors that impact adoption in order to optimize strategic public sector investments.
We are proud that our EVA-driven analysis has empowered the City to plan their future investments in EV infrastructure programs, by providing a clear roadmap for the types and quantities of charging infrastructure needed to support a growing population of EVs. We are also excited that North Van has decided to share the results of our work with other local government leaders in BC, as part of a broad effort to coordinate and advance climate action at the municipal level.
