Iowa’s Efficiency Potential

Dunsky was recently retained to lead a large-scale study of the potential for gas and electricity savings across every sector, market segment and technology option in the State of Iowa. With our partners, the Dunsky team is leading a detailed, bottom-up assessment of energy and greenhouse gas savings opportunities that are both cost-effective and realistically achievable.
At the heart of this work lies the Dunsky Potential Model, a transparent, sophisticated yet user-friendly tool that we have applied for a number of states and provinces to assess market-wide energy saving opportunities. Built with input from extensive primary research in order to maximize accuracy, the model will provide Iowa with a detailed window into the state’s energy efficiency potential, answering questions such as: How much savings are possible? Are they economically viable? Can they realistically be achieved through voluntary programs or other means? By when? In which market segments? With what measures, and which market strategies? Are incentives the only option, or can financing play a role in boosting adoption of energy efficient technologies? And how sensitive are results to changing parameters?
The results will be used to guide policy, establish savings targets, and design programs and go-to-market strategies with confidence.
Similar Projects: Dunsky has conducted potential studies for a wide variety of clients including Cape Light Compact (Massachusetts), the Government of Alberta, the State of Vermont, Hydro Quebec, and New Brunswick Power. Studies have addressed the market opportunities for energy efficiency, demand response, clean energy and alternative transportation fuels and vehicles.
