Urban Climate Innovation Hubs
Large cities are confronted with the dual challenge of reducing their own corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and those of their broader communities. In a bid to promote outside-the-box thinking, some, including Dunsky’s client The Atmospheric Fund of Toronto, have established cutting-edge innovation and investment hubs to catalyse community-wide emissions reduction projects.
The Dunsky team is now engaged in three new projects designed to expand the breadth and impact of these climate hub models:
1) Toronto: In Canada’s largest metropolis, Dunsky is helping TAF navigate its recent territorial expansion to the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (following the injection of significant new funds to its endowment), notably by assessing new strategic opportunities to broaden TAF’s impact in buildings and transportation;
2) Montreal: At the request of TAF and the Clean Economy Fund, including the Trottier Family Foundation, we are exploring the interest for, and viability of, an urban climate innovation hub in Montreal; and
3) Others: For TAF, we are also exploring the feasibility of launching a broader network of urban climate innovation hubs across Canadian metropolitan areas.
Municipalities have a key role to play in building a low-carbon future. Dunsky is excited to be supporting their continued – and expanded – climate leadership.
